This slide demonstrates how a single supplier, with all the capabilities requried in-house, can be used to cut costs.

A supplier delivering a project in house with their own resources only takes one ‘profit margin’. A lead contractor will typically take a profit margin on the work they manage, and sub-contractors will also require a profit margin on the work they do. This means that a single supplier, delivering a project using in-house capabilities can often do so for less.

High-Rise Construction

When constructing high-rise buildings, the height needed between storeys can make a big difference. If a construction company is able to reduce the space needed between a ceiling and the floor above, a number of benefits accrue. The building can be made shorter – which reduces the cost of construction, or rooms can be made higher, delivering a better building.

Height between storeys can be reduced by improving insulation, using stronger materials, reducing the space needed for services, and so on.

Self Delivery

This slide can be used by companies proposing to deliver a project in house, competing with companies who will sub-contract parts of the contract.

Self delivery of a complete solution can deliver a project for lower cost with higher quality. The argument here is that this is because there is no margin-on-margin, and because a company delivering everything in house can control a project better.
